Hi,
Sorry, have quite a lot of questions so would really appreciate any help.
1. I want to go to Thailand in late August/early sept - am open to either Koh Samui or Phuket.
I really don%26#39;t want anything too commercial but still want enough bars/restaurants so that I can leave the hotel and have a good choice, and could possibly walk/travel into Chaweng?
Also is weather going to be a problem then- I know it%26#39;s changeable but is there a chance it could rain for the whole 10 days???
2. Have been looking for a nice place - the Villa Lawana sounds good, or the Lamai Wanta but again, is this close to some life outside the hotel?
3. Finally, are prices still cheap there as everyone is saying that it%26#39;s much more expensive than previously??
Thanks for your help!!!
Xxxx
First time to Thailand
The weather on Koh Samui at that time of year would be far better than Phuket, it is a high season time for Koh Samui for that reason.
On average in August Koh samui has about 5.6 ins rain and Phuket 10.3, in September Koh samui 7.6 Phuket 16.5. August would be better for Samui.
Past years rainfall and weather summary Koh samui:

Phuket:

Both those islands are the most commercial islands to visit. But if you want lots of restaurants and bars then Chaweng will no doubt suit. You can take trip to Koh Phangan and Koh tao quite easily.
Expensive is relative really to where you come from but certainly a great deal chaper than Europe.
First time to Thailand
I saw Lamai Wanta in June and it looks great. Lovely pool, nice restaurant and only 2 minutes to the centre of Lamai.Lots of beachside restaurants and bars to visit in Lamai. Would consider staying there next time.
Lamai is approx 30mins from Chaweng by taxi.August should be good weather on Samui.
I think Samui is cheaper than Phuket but others may know for sure.WE love Samui and love Lamai.

Good Luck in your Quest.

We stayed in Bophut and a taxi to Chaweng cost us 200 baht.
Also our first time to Thailand and we were impressed by prices
