Koh Samui - Good place to stay in May??

Hi there, we are looking to go to Thailand first week of May this year for 10 days and wondered if Koh Samui is a good bet? We stayed in Cha Am a couple of years ago at same time of year for 10 days (our first visit to Thailand) and had 3 of torrential rain and most other days had a heavy shower or two or cloudy in morning or afternoon! Everyone said we were unlucky as not usually so much rain until June. Also been told that the East coast gets less rain than the West and better the further south you go??? If Koh Samui is a good place to stay can you recomment hotels? Good standard but not costing the earth? All inclusive or if B %26amp; B plenty of eating places nearby? Any help is much appreciated !!! Thanks

Koh Samui - Good place to stay in May??

Drichy - May is usually good in Samui - really depends what you%26#39;re looking for - I suggest you read some of the other threads on the Samui forum to get ideas of areas to stay - do you want full on night life or quiet tropical beaches - Samui can offer the right place for most people%26#39;s taste but before any recommendations can be made really need to know what is your ideal holiday

Koh Samui - Good place to stay in May??

Hi,

I was in ko samui in may last year, from the 13 of may to the 20 may. The weather was hot. We had a bit overcast during the week but mostly sunny.

We got a tan and had the best time. If there is showeres its usally very short. But it is a good time to visit in may, you should have good weather:)

We stayed in Imperial boathouse on chong mon beach. Very good, cheap and clean big rooms. We loved the quiet beach and the hotel. We took a taxi when we wanted to eat in busy chaweng. So if you dont want to live in busy chaweng stay here or nearby. The hotel is good standard with lovely gardens and big pools. And very good food at the beach. Lovely:) Hope this helps.

Hi Drichy,

I would definately recommend the Banana Fan Sea hotel to anyone! The hotel was lovely and great value for money. The rooms were spacious, clean and well decorated. The pool area and gardens were very well maintained and the staff very helpfull. The resort was on the best part of the beach where the sea was clear and the sand was much nicer than what we saw further north of the beach. There are loads of lovely places to eat right outside, i would definately say the hotel is in the best location, not too near the busy bars, but close enough to walk. We took a look at some of the other hotels near by like chaweng buri, the banana fan was without doubt the best, for the amount of money we paid! You will not be disappointed with the Banana Fan Sea hotel in Koh Samui and i would absolutely go back!!!

Cheers :)

Hello, Thanks for your reply. We much prefer staying in quieter areas/hotels with a good beach close by but within easy reach of restaurants and bars if we fancy a night out or a change of scene. We stayed AI last time and couldn%26#39;t fault the hotel, gardens %26amp; staff lovely + food was superb (Regent Chalets, Cha-Am) but hotel lacked a nice bar to sit in at night and due to the chance of torrential rain we rarely ventured into the nearby village - though I have to say that a lot of the bars and restaurants were closed (late season? or bad weather? not sure which)Want a good standard of hotel with a nice pool and restaurant but don%26#39;t mind B %26amp; B if there are plenty of other places to eat out and drinks, food etc in hotel not extortionate . Not sure yet where to go but had Koh Samui recommended. Any help, much appreciated.

hi drichy,

we%26#39;ve booked to go to koh samui in may for our honeymoon.. i did alot of research and found that it was the best possible option for Thailand for may!! so excited now.. can%26#39;t wait and we%26#39;ve booked the amari palm reef hotel which seems lovely.. great reviews !!! got a great deal thru trailfinders uk.. 2 k for both of us for 10 nites!!

we%26#39;re gonna go to koh phangan on a day trip also.. easy access from samui..

good luck in deciding where u want to go!!

Hi,drichy

After reading previous reviews we decided to try Nova Samui anyway. Our 14 night stay was wonderful although very quiet as only 8 couples were staying. Only 1 night did we have the loud music as reported in a previous review, so it was not a problem. The staff couldnt do enough for you and were very attentive, the room (no 201 on the 1st floor) was lovely with a Queen size bed, the maid came in every morning and changed the bedding/towels etc there is a kettle and a supply of teabags.NovaSamui Resort Koh

Samui provides the perfect setting to relax and unwind. Withsuperb views over Chaweng Lake and easy access to all the beaches on Samui%26#39;s east and north coast, the resort is only a short tuk-tuk ride from the island%26#39;s vibrant night-life.

I am sure you will enjoy, that was bad luck on the weather in Cha Am as at that time of year would normaly be very dry indeed.

But anyway Koh Samui certainly is a very good choice for weather at that time and you can choose beaches that are quiet and yet not be far from plenty to do in the evenings, and also lots of right on the beach places to stay with a very tropical style.

Anna you%26#39;ve cut and pasted yet ANOTHER review done by someone else here on trip advisor.
