Patong Merlin

My partner and I will be staying at the Patong Merlin for 10 nights from 28 August 2009 in a Pool View room. Can anyone tell me what the rooms are like (i.e is there a bath tub, much room etc). I have been reading that the hotel has been recently renovated. Is this correct and is there a certain wing we should request to be placed in?

Would greatly appreciate your response.

Thanks

Patong Merlin

Hi Bella85,

We stayed at the Patong Merlin in a pool view room in april 08 and found it to be great.

I found the room to be big enough and the bed was huge.

The bathroom was ok, shower over bath that was a bit average and the bathroom was a little small compared to the room.

There was a great balcony that we sat out on everyday to have a drink and look over the pool.

FYI we stayed in room 3218 and thought it was great because it was in the middle of the resort so great acess to both the beach and otop.

If you need any other info let me know.

Have a great time we will be back in Nov. Cant wait.

Cheers

Patong Merlin

At PM, any pool view room is pretty good, but I%26#39;d try to avoid those near the lobby in block 6 (plenty prefer these rooms), or right at the other (beach) end eg block 1, or the first block 2. They were renovating block 4 whilst we were there in June 08, all those rooms should be fresh.

My pick would be room 2204 - building 2, pool view, one floor up by stairs, nearer the quieter beach end. Looks out onto foliage and maybe a little piece of pool 3, and is a little more private than most pool view rooms. Longer walk to brekkie, shorter walk to beach. 2304, same thing on the second floor; 2104 would be ground floor, but no real view. Just don%26#39;t get too close to the gym (eg 2209? or higher), loud music all day. After that, any pool view except top floor in building 5, same for building 4, same for building 3. I think it%26#39;s Blocks 3, 5 and 6 that have elevators.

Look at Google maps or other Phuket map sites. From the beach end, which is the back of the hotel, it goes Building 1,3,5 on one side (top or north end), and 2, 2(yes, two 2%26#39;s) %26amp;amp; 4 on the other, and the lobby is Building 6 on Rat u thit road.

Generally agree with the comments above and would like to offer the following:

I stayed in block 2 which on the beach road side and opposite the reception. This was okay but the noise from the restaurant/bar/entertainment area was a tad annoying until they shut down late at night/early morn. Great if you want a quick exit onto beach road though.

The best place IMO is in 5 and 6 block which is above the reception amd closer to the second road. It is quiet, great rooms (newest in 2007/2008) and they have lifts so you don%26#39;t have to lug your golf clubs up and down the steps.

Cheers

Yep GG, you must have been in the first lot of the block 2%26#39;s. Room 2204 is in the second lot of block 2, closer to the block 4 rooms.

In my memory, all of block 5 was good, but parts of block 6 would be above the breakfast area ? Maybe noisy there too ?

Buildings 4 or 5 are the best in my opinion and over looking the top pool near reception, 1 floor up is perfect and rooms 4204,5, or 6, in building 4 are my picks.

Building 6 does look down the length of the Merlin to the beach but as there are no ground floors in building 6 the sun in the afternoon makes it unbearable to sit on the balcony for more than 10 minutes.

You will love the Merlin and the breakfast sets you up for the day ahead. Have a great time...Ronnie.

We are staying at PM in June/July, just wondering which buildings do have lifts. I%26#39;ve been contemplating requesting either building 4 or 5, but don%26#39;t want to climb too many stairs. Which building is the gym in?

Thanks Lee

Don%26#39;t get why people want to go to the gym on holidays...

The gym is in block 2. I think it%26#39;s underneath the super suite, i.e. the largest and most expensive room at PM.

Hang on, you want to know where the gym is, but don%26#39;t want to climb stairs ? lol.

Buildings 3 %26amp; 5 and 6 have lifts, which makes me think building 1 must have as well. 2 doesn%26#39;t, don%26#39;t know about 4. It%26#39;s on the same side as 2 so maybe not.

It%26#39;s not that many stairs anyway.

Ive stayed there twice, Rooms are probably not the hotels highlight IMO, nothing wrong with them , just standard basic.

Highlight has to be the pool or pools, very nice , with plenty of room.

PM is great. IMO its greatest assets are the pools and location. The rooms are good, nothing fancy, but perfectly acceptable. Have stayed at PM 3 times now - twice in building 2 and once in building 3 and enjoyed it every time. Had a ground floor room in building 3, with pool view, but view of pool was limited, but still beautiful because it overlooked the gorgeous gardens.

One thing I would warn/advise about is some of the rooms on the ground level of building 3 that are supposed to be pool view (because they are that side of) don%26#39;t have particularly good views. So, for anyone out there paying extra for a pool view, request level 1.

Wildo, I%26#39;m with you in regards to the gym, couldn%26#39;t think of anything worse. It was just that you mentioned not being too close to the gym as it%26#39;s noisy and I%26#39;d read another post about ';duf duf'; music, so I%26#39;m making sure I try and get as far away from it as possible.
