Tongsai Bay Hotel - A couple of questions!

We are staying at the Tongsai Bay for 10 nights in May for our honeymoon and after reading the reviews and info on here cannot wait!

We would like some info from anyone who has stayed at the Tongsai before:

1. Do they have facility to book trips / days out or would you recommend booking in advance of getting there? Are there any trips / excursions that anyone recommends?

2. There have been a few people %26#39;complaining%26#39; about the expense and although we have the attitude of %26#39;you only get what you pay for%26#39; - what is a reasonable budget for a couple who like a drink and good food, a bit of a night out etc if we were to stay in the resort 5 nights and head out to Bo Phut / Chaweng for a few nights?

Thanks all

Tongsai Bay Hotel - A couple of questions!

Hi Andy and Helen

We have stayed at Tongsai 3 times and absolutely love it.

The hotel has plenty of tour options available, I don%26#39;t think you will need to book in advance as we have never found things to be frantically busy in Samui.

To be honest we mainly stay at the hotel as we are there to relax and enjoy the wonderful location.

One trip we have done a few times is the day trip on the Kia Ora which is a catamaran based at Big Buddha, about 5-10 minutes away, details are at;

www.kiaorathailand.com

We booked direct with them and they pick up and drop off at the hotel.

I don%26#39;t think the food and beverage on Samui is expensive at all, the Tongsai will obviously be more than going outside the resort, from memory, beers will cost you around two quid or a touch less, the more expensive main courses at the hotel restaurants would be about 10 quid or a touch less.

If you get out to Bophut or Chaweng probably knock 20-30% off unless you go to true Thai local type places which are dirt cheap.

Would recommend you try the following places we like;

Antica Locanda in Bangrak

Prego in Chaweng at the Amari

The Shack in Bophut Fishermans Village

Billabong Surf Club in Bophut Fishermans Village (More for a drink)

The Beach Restaurants on Choeng Mon Beach

The Restaurant at the Sala Samui on Choeng Mon

Big John Seafood on the West Coast is a lot of fun but a bit of a hike, they will transport you for a reasonable fee.

Have a great time and let me know if you want any more information.

Regards

Robert

Tongsai Bay Hotel - A couple of questions!

Robert

Thanks a lot for the information. Really useful.

I was sure that the prices would be reasonable - just a few reviews on here have said %26#39;expensive%26#39; as a common theme! We do not choose 5 star luxury then expect to pay nothing to enjoy it though do we?!!

Thanks

Andy and Helen

Too true,

Whether things are ';expensive'; depends on your individual circumstances...

Have a great trip.

Regards

Robert

We stayed last april and are going back in 4 weeks.

We upgraded our room for last two nights to the big villas and if you can afford it go for it.

We found it easier to book trips at fishermans village plenty of choice, the shop in tongsai not always available

Since its your honeymoon try the spa and the special couple treatment well worth it. we thought fishermans village best at night but you have to try everywhere, we also did the zip wire trip in the jungle good fun
