Sukhumvit Soi 11 or 55 - relative merits?

We%26#39;ll be in BKK in a few weeks time and were thinking of wandering down Sukhumvit Soi 11 one evening for a few drinks and then for something to eat. But then I read that Soi 55 also has lots of bars and restaurants. Can anyone give me a view on the merits of each? I%26#39;m not looking for any particular type of food, just some lively bars and a good selection of restaurants to be able to wander and choose between (without having made a reservation in advance). Does anyone have a preference between Soi 11 or 55? Hope someone can help. Thanks very much, Lally.

Soi 11 has some great nightclubs/discos, while Soi 55 (Thonglor) is more a place to eat and relax. They are not that far apart so you could easily visit both.

Soi 55 s a bit more upmarket.

Soi 11 is more a tourist area and you get hassled by taxi drivers nonstop.

It would be too far to walk from 11 to 55.

You can use the Skytrain to get to Soi 55 from the Nana Skytrain stop, near Soi 11.

My preference is a place closer to Soi 11 because of the nightlife, malls, street vendors, etc.

But visit both and make up your own mind. Here is a map of Soi 55 area.

Hi lally1 also plenty of bars down soi 33 ,some of the smaller bars not to expensive
