Trip Report - March 06 - 3 nights

Hello

Overall our trip was great! After sveral days in the islands, we came to Bangkok before returning the U.S. Bangkok is amazing, sensory overload. The sights, smells and tastes are incredible. We arrived in mid-afternoon via Air Asia (which was just fine) from Phuket and took taxi from taxi stand to our hotel. Cost was 390 Baht. We stayed at the Adelphi Suites which I would highly recommend. Great location, service and value. Room was very nice and rather high tech. Location was brilliant. The skytrain and subway are by far the best and easiest way to travel. Did a lot of walking and exploring the sois. Very interesting street life. Find a place to just sit and have a drink, relax and watch the action on the surrounding streets. Food is the best, so much to choose from. We did an 8-hr city tour with Tom of Tong Tours. He was FANTASTIC! Great guide, very knowlegable and always right on the mark when it came to getting cold water and towels. He took us to a great local thai restaurant, made a few recommendations and then disappeared for 45 mins while we ate. Very professional. Highly recommended. We went to Chatuchak weekend market (very easy by subway: use the Kam phaeng phet station) and again found sensory overload. Bring water (they sell it too - cheap) and go early. They have a DSL packing and shipping staion if you need it! I loved the longtail boat tour (about 800 Baht per boat for an hour or so)of the klongs, great way to see life and to cool off a bit. I loved Bangkok and would definately return to see more and go back to the beautiful islands down south. We flew to Bangkok via Soeul from Chicago on Asiana Airlines. Excellent airline, this is how flying should be, I can see why they where awarded airline of the year. From the U.S., there is a 12 hour layover in Soeul but they provided a choice of a day-use hotel or a city transit tour, for free! We chose the hotel and it was very nice and included lunch! Great for a nap and to freshen up before flight to BKK.

THANKS TO EVERYONE FROM THIS FORUM for all your help while I planned this trip, all the advice was dead on the mark!

Happy Travels
