Alpina Phuket Nalina Resort and Spa - Good Location??

Hi,

We are a young couple (19 and 20), travelling to Phuket in Feb 09. We have booked (but not paid yet!!), for 12 nights at the Alpina. I have read all of the reviews, and the rooms and actual hotel sound fantastic, but am a litte concerned that it might be a bit too far away from everything??? We are planning on having a relaxing holiday, but also want to be able to do lots of shopping, sightseeing, and go to different restaurants and pubs. Are there any ';markets'; or good restaurants/pubs near the Alpina, or do we need to go into Patong? I am thinking that if that is the case, it would soon become quite expensive, as others have said that it will cost 400bht one way into Patong (around $15??)?? We have tried to get into the Mercure, however they only have deluxe suites available for the dates we are there.... Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!!

Kata has a good choice of restaurants and bars, nothing to worry about. The shopping tends to be a bit cheaper than Patong, but there is less choice.

From the Nalina it is about 10 minutes on foot to either of the 2 main centers of Kata, but in the street is a good Irish pub.

Thanks for the quick response!! It%26#39;s great to hear from someone who knows the area! I think I might stick with it then..

Hi Monty

I am interested to see what you thought about the Alpina as we are booked to stay there in April. We are 2 adults and 2 kids aged 11 %26amp; 13 so any comments you have about your trip would be fantastic as this is our first time out of Australia. What did you think of the island trips and did you find a great driver to show you around the island.

I hope you had a great holiday and look forward to hearing from you on your return.

Cheers

Michelle

As Steven said earlier, there is plenty to do in Kata and Karon is not far either. I%26#39;d settle on Patong for a one day visit for shopping after checking out prices in Kata. The Karon markets were pretty good too. If you%26#39;re after suits (?) the tailor at Alpina is highly recommended by other folk. We were sorry we used someone else in hindsight.

cheers

Hi there,

A group of us (4 girls) will be staying at alpina (reasonable price and excellent reviews) in mid april. We want to hire a car for our stay (4nights), is this necessary? Is there any nightlife close by or do you have to go into patong? Are there nightmarkets close by?

We would like to do day trip to phi phi island - are there tour companies in this area?

Any info will be highly appreciated.

Thanks XXX

Hi Milly

We stayed at Alpina last year and really enjoyed it -see reviews. There is a tours shop just down the street which we found had good low season deals to anywhere you wanted to go.

Steven who also posts here has a dive shop nearby and I%26#39;m sure will have really useful info. We didn%26#39;t worry about car hire as we only visited Patong once, finding the markets near Karon just as good. Check out my JBR tripadvisor.com/ShowTopic-g293920-i5037-k202鈥?/a>

cheers
