My fiancee and I are travelling to Phuket in June for our honeymoon from the states. Do we need to get any shots before we head there? Should we be worried about any particular diseases?
Thank you for your help.
Vaccinations
This question continually pops up and I guarantee you will get many conflicting opinions, and bear in mind they are only opinions. The simple answer is no you dont need any vaccinations but obviously some are recommended, not only for Thailand but travel in general. Recommended are normally tetanus and hep a/b. I would not bother with malaria tablets just take good spray protection for evenings and try keep legs arms covered. I assume as honeymoon will be no longer than two weeks, so dont fill you body with unnecesary vaccinations unless you travelling %26#39;off beaten track%26#39;.
Vaccinations
Hi,
I play a lot of golf which often leads me to the jungles and lakes of thailand and the awesome golf courses that get carved out of them. Some say that this puts me on a higher risk than somone who spends their whole holiday at some boring resort.
I use the ';travel Doctor'; (www.traveldoctor.com.au)who specialise in health issues for the traveller.
I take my itiniary and vaccination record and let the experts tell me what I need. They also give you a good chat with regard to the current health issues of your destination. You also buy medical supplies like insect reppellent (with 35% DEET), Gastro kits etc etc.
In summary, seek a doctors advice. Don%26#39;t get bitten by mozzies and always, I mean, always, carry a Gastro (anti-stomach bug) kit.
Enjoy your Honeymoon
Cheers
If I were you, I won%26#39;t worry so much about vaccination (although I recommend you have lots of Immodium for the run!!) but rather Phuket in June!!! It is smack in the middle of heaviest rainy season....way off season. On average it rain 32 days a month!!!!! 25 hours a day! You will be lucky if you even see any sunshine at all. And more bad news, when it rains the jelly fishes come out and the sea is very dangerous with riptide current. Lots of tourist got kill at Nai Harn Beach which is most notorious for waves. Sorry to spoil your honeymoon plan. Perhaps you might consider Hua Hin or Pattaya (closer to Bangkok) Not as spectacular as Phuket or Samui but nice beaches with more cosmopolitan feel. It will rain there also but perhaps not as much as Phuket. Phuket in-season are from November-March. That is when the sea is deep blue in color as you see in all the postcard or promo brochures.
