What to wear on elephant treks and river rafting

I am leaving for Thailand tomorrow and my wife and I are debating about what we should wear out on the excursions outside of Chiang Mai. We have heard that this is getting into the Malaria and other disease zone and you should cover up, but I have read that this is only a problem during rainy season and at night. The forcast is 100 degrees while we are there and I was wondering if we would be okay in shorts while on these treks as long as we wore a lot of DEET?

Woo hoo - flight is in 24hrs and 45 minutes!

thanks!

Hi,

Not sure if I have missed you....

It%26#39;s good to wear light weight long pants when going to the elephant excursions. You can wear shorts - but make sure they are longer. It will be really hot - so light weight shirts - maybe even with long sleeves are good. You can easily roll them up.

Malaria is mainly a problem right up around the border areas further north. Also at dawn and dusk - not really a risk in middle of the day. Do take DEET repellent because it will protect you from mosquitos anyway and it%26#39;s better to be safe.

Take a wide brim hat and sun screen. The river rafting can be hot as well.

Have a wonderful trip.

Caroline.

Shorts are good for treking and t shirts. Even though it is hot in the day it still gets cool in the evening, particularly in the hills.

Now the weather in Chiangmai is getting hot. If you go to the elephant camp and want to do elephant trek and bamboo rafting, just a short pant and t-shirt.

Take insect spray... That%26#39;s it !

Enjoy your ride. It%26#39;s fun.

Hi,

Take a change of clothes or at least a towel, we got soaked doing the river rafting but absolutely loved it.
