My family (2 adults + 2 girls 9 %26amp; 12) will be visiting Phuket for the first time in early June. We have no idea where to stay but would like to be on the beach. I have heard so many great reviews about Mom Tri%26#39;s but it looks like we are faced with about $1800 for 5 nights which seems a bit steep. I am thinking we could spring for 2 glorious days on the beach at Mom Tri%26#39;s and 3 nice days somewhere else - maybe not right on the beach. Thoughts? Suggestions? I guess an alternative would be 5 nights at a decent 3 or 4 star. . . .
5 nights in an average hotel or 3 in a dive and 2 in a 5*?June is low season, so if you are flexible on accommodation there are plenty of bargains.
Mom Tri%26#39;s with tax, service and breakfast should be about US$138 per room, in low season ( Apr/May to Oct ) they have a stay 4 nights pay 3 nights package, so 5 nights would cost you 4 nights, 2 rooms x 138 = $276 x 4 = $ 1,104 which works out like for 5 nights US$ 110.40 per room. That%26#39;s from Beachsiam and others.
For that if within your budget I would go for it.
I wouldn%26#39;t try and stay 2 days 1 place and then 3 another.
I guess the $1,800 you were going for a suite?
Kata is a good choice, getting as hotel or resort that is right on the beach is not so easy as quite limited, unless you are going away towards the quieter beaches. I would go for 2 rooms at Mom tri%26#39;s ( if available ) for the 1,100.
If you wanted less there are plenty of options.
Do you have any award points you could use say for Marriott ? They have some Courtyard places good for families ( about $ 130 a night for 2 bedroom apartment suite at Kamala beach, not on the beach, but different price altogether,) and low seaon is the time you can use awards with relative ease. If you%26#39;ve got Starwood points you could try and use at Le Meridien.
Do appreciate it is low season for weather. hence the lower rates.
Not on the beach at Kata but 4 star range somethinbg like Centara Kata about $ 135 for 1 bedroom suite plus sofa bed living area. stay 5 nights pay 4 nights, that would cost you about $ 540 with some extra bed charges that also cover breakfast, not a great deal, but sure brings the cost down.
5 nights in an average hotel or 3 in a dive and 2 in a 5*?Some of the lower priced options are not too bad.
I certainly wouldn%26#39;t call places like the ';Pacific Club'; a dive.
Keep checking for deals. There are plenty around already and by June, there should be more.
Hi Seattle
We stayed out of season in tne Andaman Seaview in one of their delux rooms which is like a large junior suite and I know they have interconnecting rooms as well. Fab hotel straight across from the beach, only 161 rooms with lovely pools and interior decor.
We are going this xmas which is peak time and even more peak prices but have found the Pacific Club which is fantastic and doesn`t stuff you for all the extras the other hotels do. They have huge 2 bed suites that are really reasonable compared to other hotels. You will save a fortune staying here and the food and service get great reviews. Check out the website and the reviews here. Another couple of lovely places we have come across are `The Best House` Karon Sea Sands and In on the Beach.
Good Luck and hope you have a good time, just remember the weather can be mixy at this time and when we were there in June a couple of years ago we had a lot of rain although it didn`t spoil our trip (but we didn`t have kids with us).
Hope some of that helped.
If you really don%26#39;t care where you stay as long as it%26#39;s a little fancy, why not wait till May and book on Latestays.com or equivalent ? Places like Mom Tri%26#39;s may not have a room available, but all of the larger 5 star resorts will.
Or you could get the 5 star room at a 3 or 4 star hotel. The 2 story family suite at Duangjitt looks a fantastic setup at a decent 3 star hotel, and is already down to $260 USD per night on latestays for April (with kids 12 or under), including breakfast. In June, it will be less again.
Even booking online now for June will probably get you cheaper than $260.
Mom Tri%26#39;s is great for honeymooners, but wasted on your kids, who%26#39;d probably enjoy somewhere with a bigger pool. Kata Beach resort or Katathani would suit if you want to stay down that way.
Hi SeattleGlassman,
Do you mean Mom Tri%26#39;s Boathouse or Mom Tri%26#39;s Villa Royale?
Mom Tri (his royale title is Mom Luang and his name is Tri Devakul, hence Mom Tri) has 2 hotels.
I am the PR Manager for Mom Tri%26#39;s Villa Royale in Kata Noi (only about 300 meters away from the Boathouse).
Our low season rates are much less then high season and as mentioned by Monica4 (thank you) we have some nice packages.
Also I want to mentioned that one of our rooms would suit your family very well as they are 2 rooms, 1 with a king bed and 1 with double beds.
There is less of a sea view and more of a garden view but also a private plunge pool and because of the smaller sea view the prices are close to the standard room price.
The suite is named Lantom and is 8,500++ Baht starting now until Oct 31.
Our regular Beach Wing Suite is 7000 baht and is very spacious as well.
Also I must add the dollar seems to be going up up up :)
I would recommend to contact our front desk manager directly as she can best apply our special rates and packages to suit your needs. Also please mention you are a TripAdvisor member and she may be able to do a little bit extra ;)
Her name is Patcharee and you can contact her directly at

That%26#39;s why I never use Latestays
The family duplex at Duangjitt Resort is US$ 189.94 is the normal price readily available from places that I use and other places and that%26#39;s not even last minute, that is the normal price offered.
If you are unable to find a deal at Mom Tri%26#39;s I would recommend 5 nights in a nice 3 or 4 star.
The 3 and 4 star resorts on Phuket and Thailand in general are of a very high standard, probably better than most other parts of the world. I stayed in 3 or 4 star resorts in Phuket and was very happy.
These guys might be helpful for getting a good deal. The Australian office was really helpful.
