Diving in May - a bad idea?

Hubby, 14mo old baby, and I will be traveling to SE Asia in mid May for a dive and relaxing vacation. Would love to go to Thailand but I%26#39;m worried about the monsoon season. Is this a bad idea to plan on diving during this time of year? Which area would be best? Any recommendations about where to stay that would be good for both baby and parents?

We are not tied to Thailand if there is another part of SE Asia that would better serve our needs.

It%26#39;s not moonsoon season on Samui, it%26#39;s actually pretty good time...Moonsoon here starts in October.Diving in Koh Tao wouldnt be a problem in May.

As Elina has already said, and I posted a reply on your Koh Tao post that may would be fine. But choose where to stay with care with a 14 monbth old, my only concern was the getting to and from Koh tao, not bad or anything but with a 14 month old you need to think about that.

Elina can give some nice ideas of places suitable with a young one.

Lots of places in Koh Tao require walking stairs, I quite like Sensi Paradise Beach Resort.Try to get a room close to the sea, no too close to the road.

Will it be roughly the same for end of this month, Mar%26#39;09 ?

The monsoon season is between Oct and ??? , each year?

May experiences some real good diving conditions in The Gulf of Thailand. Mostly the seas is real calm and to spend a day on the boat is fun.

As you have a baby and parents I would recommend you to stay in Koh Tao as the dive sites are practically a few minutes away and you can either do a morning or afternoon session where most of the dive operators offer two dives respectively.

The visibility in and around Koh Tao can be anywhere between 15-20 meters with the prime sites like Chumphorn Pinnacle even better where you have a chance to see grey reef sharks if you are lucky.

Koh Tao in general is very relaxed island as compared to its bigger neighbour Koh Samui. I recommend trying Dive Point - Koh Tao which is located on arrival at the pier at Mae Haad.

If you are planing to stay in Samui then I recommend 100 Degrees East which has a special offer for certified divers on the Stand By Ticket, visit http://www.samuiscubaclub.com

Avoid West Coast of Thailand as its monsoons there.

Cheers

Also Check out Saree Beach area cause the beach sand there is real nice and soft. The sand around the beach area streches quite far out. There are a few nice hotel and bungalows located there.

Moonsoon in Samui - October-December. March is also totally safe.
