International Music Festival, Bang Niang, 13-15 March 2009

Pending receiving some more detailed information from one of the organisers, there is to be an International Music Festival in Bang Niang on 13th, 14th and 15th March 2009. The venue is the stretch of land at the northern end of Bang Niang beach just before you cross over on to Khuk Khak beach, commonly known as Coconut Beach. When you come here you will understand why!

You reach the site by turning right at the Chong Fah restaurant at the bottom of the Beach Road from Highway 4 just past the 711. Continue as far as you can go on this road, by foot or by vehicle and you will come to the site just past 2 new villas built directly overlooking the beach.

Briefly the Festival features music from all over the world by day and more at night with stalls and booths selling food and soft drinks and others local art and handicrafts.

Please note the site will be both alcohol and smoking free as one of its sponsors is the Thai Department of Health.

The Festival will, among other things, promote environmentalism and it is intended to sell and recycle all consumables on the site.

More information on what promises to be a unique event or Khao Lak when received.

The owner of the site is an enterprising Thai guy, originally from Chumphon, with business interests in several other places. He has recently established a restaurant and massage place on this stretch of beach with free sun loungers. The restaurant is currently surrounded with beautiful potted plants and as is the perimeter of the Festival site, all of which he has grown himself. He intends to plant these throughout the site during the Green Season to provide a permanent display for ';when you come back next year.';

Also at the back of the site is a small natural lagoon which he intends to develop and enlarge and fill with fish to catch.

This is a huge area of land in total which he has many plans for but is adamant they are to be environmentally friendly and ';full of nature.';

Good luck to him and the Festival!

If successful, it could become an annual, and hopefully more publicised, event.
