I need some advice here.....i am in chiang mai for 4 nights , single traveler.these are my ideas.... flight of the gibbon on one day and day 2 umbrella and temple tours.i can take the vip bus to chiang rai for 2 nights(days 3 and 4) and see the borders of mayanmar and laos and boat tour and hill tribes .because i am alone should i do tours (in any of the towns)with a private guide or with a group. And should i just stay in chiang mai and do rafting ,elephant nature park and lots of shopping.is it worth the extra time to go to chiang rai

You can easily fill in 4 days in Chiang Mai and still have more to do.A great exdperience is a cooking school. You get a tour of the market to by some fresh produce then back to cook up a feast and sit down to enjoy it,You can meet some fun people too.

Chiang Rai is well worth the visit.Depends what you into but even just a day trip from CM in a private car with driver is not a bad option. They will show you main attractions, can cross into Mayanmar for a look at markets,go on Mekong boat ride cross over to Laos to a small market.

Yes as the previous poster mentioned there is more than enough to occupy your time in Chiang Mai.

Walking Street market if your there on a Sunday, cooking classes are a lot of fun and not very expensive, the Mae Sa elephant farm a few ks out of Chiang Mai are just some suggestions.

We have some pics and stories of our trip here... www.bobandjanette.com which may help.

Happy %26amp; safe travels

Have a look at my Trip Report.

This will give you an ideas as to what is available.

Look at the Riverside Tours as the more breakdown and costs for Tours.

I have used them 2 times in the last 4 months with no problems

A private guide can be expensive but they will stop when you want to take photos and you can specifie what you want to see.

I hope this is of help.

If I had four days in Chiang Mai what would I do over again?

1. Elephant Nature Park

2. A cooking class with A Lot of Thai

3. Doi Suthep / City Tour

4. A day of just walking around the old city moat area (if its a weekend, then the walking markets for sure)

The Flight of the Gibbons looks cool... maybe do that instead of Option 4.

I wouldnt use up my days for Chiang Rai... its not enough time to do both... CR is fantastic but don%26#39;t forgo time in CM to do it when you only have 4 days!

You can see my blogs/photos on my time in Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai at www.travelblog.org/bloggers/reet

Hi Which Hat,

We recently did a trip to both Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai - but we had two weeks, so got to space things out.

There is an undiscovered charm about Chiang Rai - and it is well worth seeing. BUT, with only 4 days - personally I would stay in Chiang Mai.

Chiang Mai has so much to offer. With four days you will barely scrape the surface. You really don%26#39;t want to waste time traveling three hours plus and back to Chiang Rai - plus taking into account time to check out of where you are staying and checking back in somewhere else.

Go to Chiang Mai. I guarantee you will fall in love with the place -and you%26#39;ll be back - probably for longer.

Make sure you add a visit up the mountain to Wat Doi Suthep to your list %26#39;to do%26#39;. Also if you are there on Sunday - don%26#39;t miss the evening Walking Street Market.

I have a couple of Chiang Mai trip reports with info you might be interested in. If you click on my profile you%26#39;ll find them around mid Octobe.

Fight of the gibbion is the best fun, its a must.

I thought you have done that one reet ?

My god you would love it !

Come on Phil keep up....Reet said what she would DO again!!

If I went again I would do the Maesa Elephant camp again....lovely setting. Temples another good idea and maybe go to the village just past it.

Loved the weekend markets.....So much to do and not enough time!!!!

cheers

Hi Which Hat,

Have a look at my 2 trip reports, the first one is a summarised report and the second one is a day by day report.

Just type in the Chiang Mai search box the following.

Stewie%26#39;s 2008 Chiang Mai Trip Report.

Stewie%26#39;s Day By Day Chiang Mai Trip Report.

Then click on the link.

Cheers,
