Hi,
We are getting married in Koh Samui next January and can%26#39;t decide where we should stay! We are looking for a resort/hotel that is relaxed and easy going. However we also want somewhere that has some decent nightlife and atmosphere nearby so we can celebrate with our mates!
Also, we want to avoid places that are too westernised. We don%26#39;t want to be surrounded by Starbuck and McDonalds.
We have considered:
- Chaweng, but it sounds too busy for us
- Lamai. Can anyone advise how busy it is, and if the usual people that go there are rough (The Lonely Planet guide says its full of bikers!)
- Bo Phut. Most websites say the beach is not that nice. is this the case and is it as pretty as Lamai. We also can%26#39;t tell how much nightlife is nearby.
Can anyone give us any advice and even recommend a particular resort? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Dave and Nikki
Which area of Koh Samui?
Didnt see any bikers in Lamai last June.(except the local speedracers)
Have a look at Lamai Wanta Resort, great location, good pool and fairly new. I didnt stay there but certainly would consider it next time. You can walk to centre of Lamai in 2 minutes for restaurants and nightlife. Check it out at Sawadee.com.
Good luck in your quest.

Which area of Koh Samui?
Lamai is not full of bikers, it%26#39;s full of lonely Thai girls...Beach is pretty good though...
Chaweng has good beach, especially south Chaweng and it is the place which only has decent nightlife, if you want to go to nightclubs, you will have to go there anyway from the place you stay in. Bophut is trendy little village and has great restaurants, bars, pubs and nice little boutiques, and NO girls, but the beach is average. Rough sand.
Choengmon has great beach but only a few beach restaurants, no nightlife. So, if you want to be close to nightlife but not too close - stay in South Chaweng- Samui Paradise, Banana Fan Sea, Buri Rasa, Le Paradise are very nice places. If you don%26#39;t mind driving to clubs - stay in Choengmon or Bophut.
We have seen several weddings at The Tongsai Bay at Choeng Mon.
It is a beautiful resort, very tranquil but only 10-15 minutes in a cab to Chaweng or Bophut.

Robert
Hi all. Thanks for the info.
Had a look at Choeng Mon, and it looks a bi too quiet so we%26#39;re still undecided between Lamai and Bo Phut.
How bad is Lamai for the girl bars. We want to be able to go out with our parents and want to be able to go somewhere that isn%26#39;t too trashy.
Otherwise Bo Phut sounds good, although I%26#39;m still under the impression the beach isn%26#39;t the nicest.
Are either of these places better for water activities such as swimming, snorkelling, canoeing etc.
Thanks again
Dave
