Malaria Prophylaxis?

Please advise if malaria prophylaxis is needed for a jungle trek in Chiang Mai!

Thanks!

Malaria Prophylaxis?

Hello,

I have heard that when travelling in northern Thailand it is advisable to get certain vacinations. Its probably better to visit your doctor to get the correct information for that particular area.

enjoy!

Malaria Prophylaxis?

Hi, the simple answer is YES it is definately advisable. Keep in mind that the prophylaxis is no guarantee that you won%26#39;t contract malaria, you still need to use liberal amounts of insect repellant. Preferably one with a generous proportion of deet.If you start to feel unwell with flu like symptons seek help from a local medico, they are all well experienced at treating malaria. The repellants will also go some way to helping you avoid dengue fever, for which there is no prophylaxis or vaccination available and is not a lot of fun if you get it!

Take those precautions and you should be a safe as Fort Knox, although that%26#39;s looking a little shaky these days!!!!!

Hi,

You need Hep A and Typhoid (you can get both from one injection).

We have never used Malaria Prophylaxis for Chiang Mai and surrounds. Malaria is said to be limited to the areas right in the jungle around the northern most border of Thailand.

This topic has been discussed at length before on the forum. If you put the word Malaria into the search box you should find the previous discussions.

Dengue Fever is a concern (here in Australia as well!). Using a DEET repellent is highly advisable.

Caroline.
