Hey Triper,

If you%26#39;ve got a few baht spare - buy a Nancy Chandler Map. It%26#39;s a map with all the eating places and shopping places marked directly onto the map itself. It has pink stars on the map for eating places and you%26#39;ll see heaps of choices. It also comes with a small booklet which has a directory of places to eat, where they are on the map and what type of food.

The map was just updated in January - so should be up to date. You can pick up a copy of the map from the bookshops up around the Tha Pae Gate. There is a magazine shop directly opposite the gate that sells it.

There is a grocery stall with Western food options in the Warorot Market Area. Its called Kasem Grocery Stall on Ratchawong Rd - not far from the intersection with Chang Moi Rd. You will probably find cheese there.

Caroline.

What kind of foods are you looking to replace ?

If you are looking for western foods/drinks, there are several options. The best I think is probably Rim Ping Supermarket, with branches near Central Airport Mall and on the ring road by the junction to Mae Jo (hwy 1010). There is also Tops Supermarket on the Mae Rim road (hwy 107) just north of Chang Puek Gate by the old Novotel (now called Mercure). There is also a supermarket in the basement of Central Kad Suan Keaw (can%26#39;t remember which chain it belongs to).

If you are just looking for food, there is a ton of great restaurants, both Thai, Asian, European, American, etc.

Chiang Mai only has about 500 coffee shops. Most serve good fresh brewed coffee.

try one Chiang Mai signature coffee. Vavee Coffee, they are few branches around CM.

Go throught the main entrance at ... Tapae Gate and straight ahead, can%26#39;t miss it is ... ';Starbucks';

Don%26#39;t drink starbucks in Thailand! Try the Thai ones...you%26#39;ll appreciate the difference and realize how much better ther coffee is.

She asked where a coffee shop was and that is the only one that I know of. I don%26#39;t drink coffee

No problem, eh? :)

Black Canyon Coffee near the Tapae Gate :)

Try Chiangmai brand such as Wawee Coffee.
