How isolated is Anantara?

Hi,

We are looking to book a holiday in Anantara Si Kao, but were concerned that it might be a little too far from any other restaurants or activities. Does anyone know whether there are towns nearby? Also, how long does it take to get from Krabi airport to Anantara? The website says 60 mins, but the postings on this forum suggest that it%26#39;s probably closer to 75 mins...

Thanks-for your help!

Boz

How isolated is Anantara?

I to am going to this resort in March 27-31st,i emailed hotel to find out when the bridge would be finished as this apparently gives acess to beach restaurants, which would otherwise take about 20 mins by car so i have read. They say the bridge will be finished by April so keeping fingers crossed will be opened on 27th march.Trang is the town nearest to Anantara i think.

I stayed at The Anantara when it was still The Amari. I think that it will take a fair bit longer than an hour from Krabi Airport, I%26#39;d have said 90 minutes certainly. The nearest restaurants are in Pak Meng which is a little fishing village a few miles up the road, always assuming that the bridge is fixed by the time you go. It%26#39;s much further if the bridge is still down and you have to go all the way round. Try eating at The Leytrang Resort, just opposite the pier. Thai people travel for miles to eat there. There%26#39;s also Yok Yor where the tables are placed along the edge of the beach on the opposite side of the road to the restaurant. Fabulous crab, ask for %26#39;Poo%26#39; which is Thai for crab.

The nearest big town is Trang, the regional capital, which is worth a visit. You can get there by using the local bus from Pak Meng which takes about 45 minutes and costs about 50 Baht. When we were there, the hotel called the bus station and the bus came down from Pak Meng to get us!

Do take a boat trip out to the islands, either through the hotel or more cheaply from Pak Meng pier. The beaches on the mainland are not very good but on the islands, they are magical.

Hi Grecophile and Dilymy,

Thank-you both for your fantastically helpful replies! The resort really does look beautiful and we%26#39;re seriously considering it for our holiday.

A few more questions, does anyone know what the path to Pak Meng is like (assuming the bridge gets repaired on-time)? Is it safe and well lit for travel at night? Do you have to walk, or can you take a taxi?

Thank-you again for your replies. Dilymy, we%26#39;d be very interested in your thoughts on the resort after you return from your holiday!

Thanks again,

Boz.

The %26#39;path%26#39; is a proper road without footpaths and in my opinion is much too far to walk. When we stayed there, the hotel ran courtesy mini-vans up to Pak Meng. If that is not the case now that it%26#39;s The Anantara, you%26#39;ll need a taxi. The road across the bridge is unlit as I recall. Last year, we attempted to walk, one evening, the other way, from the Pak Meng pier in the direction of The Anantara but gave up long before we even reached the bridge!

When are you planning on going?

By the way, Trang airport is nearer than Krabi....

Dilymy
