Child friendly hotels in Hua Hin

We want to go to Hua Hin in July with 5 and 8 year old boys.Any suggestions for child friendly hotels? Also is it best to get a car service from Bangkok or rent own car? Would like to get to Hua Hin asap as would have been flying from South Africa to Bangkok via Hong Kong and kids will not be happy!

Child friendly hotels in Hua Hin

From Bangkok Airport you can take a taxi or limo service, no need to pre book.

Many on the forum though do use Mr. Roong, we don%26#39;t as we drive down ourselves. I believe he charges about B 2,000 from the airport to Hua Hin.

Forget renting a car yourselves. Search the posts and his details will come up.

For child friendly hotels I guess with kid%26#39;s club etc- well the top beach resort hotels are Hilton and Sofitel which are also right in town although at the beach.

Marriott resort is a bit further along, walkable but most use tuk-tuk. Hyatt Regency is about 3 km and is superb with a huge water slide and lovely pools, more speard out and more space around than Marriott or Hilton but relatively expensive.

Note Hilton is a %26#39;tower%26#39;, some like it, does not appeal to me. Sofitel is a very well liked classic style hotel, modern yet 1920%26#39;s design ( if you have ever been to the Victoria Falls Hotel - well, that sort of old world style yet modern at the same time ). Appeals to couples but quite ok for families too.

There are many other options - when you say %26#39;child friendly%26#39; are you looking for a kid%26#39;s club or are you thinking more along the lines of %26#39;friendly%26#39; in the way of %26#39;room space%26#39; suitability ?

Baan Laksasubha does not have the facilities of the large resort hotels but plus side is the large amount of space as they are villa suites, though reasonable in price. On the beach, near Sofitel. Does not give you the facilities but are aimed at those who need more than just %26#39;a room%26#39;.

North of Hua Hin ( about 15-20 mins ) is a tall high rise, the Courtyard by marriott, although high rise it is %26#39;very%26#39; family orientated with kids club, water slide etc.

So much depends on a%26gt; budget and b%26gt; whether kids club priority or not.

Pits SAA or Thai no longer do the direct flights !

Courtyard by Marriott Hua Hin on the beach( although really Cha Am, north of Hua Hin town )

My personal view though is that with children we never liked high places with balconies, I just have never liked hight rise places.

Holiday Inn Cha Am Hua Hin - about 15/20 minutes north of town in Cha am area

Hyatt Regency on the beach ( they do charge for kid%26#39;s club though )

Hilton Hua Hin

Wora Bura is a smaller resort, nice but a bit far from town, about 4 km

If these are all too pricey say so, I am sure others will add their ideas, they are lots of less expensive places.

There are local discount rates and bookings to compare the prices.

Hi Monica

Thanks that helps. I also don%26#39;t like high rise so will contact Marriott and Hyatt and see what their rates are. I would like either a biggish room or interleading as we will not leave the kids in their own room. Kids club is nice but as long as there is space to run and a nice pool its fine. Also do not want to be at a hotel where other guests gets irritated by the kids!

Yes its quite a schlepp getting there from SA but once there we can at least have a nice holiday with our Rands!

Hi

For our first visit to HH we stayed at the Hyatt with our 2 children then aged 10 and 7. They loved the water slide, and our 7 year old enjoyed the kids club, as Monica said it was chargeable. We had 2 connecting rooms which worked out well. You need to be sure to request these, as a lot of rooms only connect via their balconies, which at that age we didn%26#39;t want.

For the past 2 summers we have stayed at the Sofitel in a pool villa. These are fab - as well as the (small) private pool, there is a separate bedroom and bathroom for the parents, and then the children get their own room, plus there is an addiional shower room. Some people have correctly commented that some of the villas are over looked by the Hilton, but we have requested villas on the opposite side, which are not over looked at all. The children enjoyed the various pools, table tennis, darts, kids club, soap carving, flower decorating and other activities. The staff are extremely friendly and seem to love children - but that goes for HH (and Thailand) generally I think.

We have taken taxis to HH - for the past 2 years we have got the Sofitel to send a car to pick us up from Bangkok. I know it can be done cheaper, but the service is great and quality of car good - and I agree that after a long flight you just want to be there.

Have a great time!

WW

WW I was thinking about the pool villas but just guessed it might be a bit expensive.

I thgink the Sofitel could well suit Gypsy also but I don%26#39;t know about kid%26#39;s club etc ?

Gypsy - if you want a service that picks you up you can browse for those details for mr Roong, Oriental escapes is a limo service, they do a decent size sedan Bangkok Airport to Hua Hin for about THB 2,600 ( US$ 75 ) they say about ZAR 753

orientalescape.com/thailand/鈥uahin.html

Rates vary on time of year Gypsy, if you don%26#39;t mind saying what time of year i can give you some rough ball-park idea of what rates %26#39;should be%26#39;.

Thanks WW and Monica. We are planning on being there in July.

I can%26#39;t say if these are good or not but starts to give you a rought idea, if they are way off what you want to spend don%26#39;t panic, there are places that are cheaper.

Roughly:

Marriott Resort ZAR 1,247 US$ 123 for twin/double or ZAR 1,583 US$ 156 for seaview, 2 kids stay free sharing same room but only 1 extra bed provided

Hyatt Regency ( can only see THB and US$ rates ) US$ 113 for normal twin/double room

Sofitel Centara normal ZAR 1,400 US$ 138, Spa villa ZAR 2,649 US$ 261 Pool Villa ZAR 3,055 US$ 300

Baan Laksasubha ( this is the group of 16 villas and suites which is family owned ) - Suite for 2 adults and 2 children ZAR 1,317 US$ 130

Garden suites are 94 sqm with 2 bedrooms (!!) Furnishings are very white wood bright stylish. The only %26#39;facilities%26#39; are the swimming pool and beach restaurant/bar. These are owned and managed by a %26#39;rich and famous%26#39; person. I venture that quiet during the week but full weekends with Thai families.

It is on the top hot list for Thai family weekends and that for you is a plus. My only conern though is that it does not have Marruiott/HyattSofitel facilities.

Worth noting though for others who might be interested.

Remember, Hua Hin Sofitel, Baan laksasuba right in town center, you step from Sofitel right into the center with shops and restaurants.

Nice Sofitel pics:

Marriott - you will need a tuk-tuk to and from.

Hyatt Regency - also need a tuk tuk to/from though daylight there is a local %26#39;pick-up bus%26#39; ( with seats in the back which is B 10 ( ZAR 3 ) to town center ( kids go free )

Songthaew B 10 pick ups = bakkies with seats and cover in he back, everyone uses them !
