Thanks

Malaria in Koh Chang

The simple rule is, if you are worried then take meds and you%26#39;ll enjoy your holiday more and wont panic if your child gets bitten by a mozzie.

But in reality you wont get it, or if you do you are extremely unlucky. In the past there was malaria here apparently, but it has long since stopped being a concern to people living here. Never heard of anyone getting it here since I%26#39;ve been on the island - 5 and a half years. I have taken any anti-malarials and never known any locals or workers here who worry about it.

So chances are you and your child will be fine. Sandflies might be more of a problem though as their bites itch a lot. Use coconut oil or good anti-sandfly spray, as mozzie spray doesnt always keep them away.

Nope, malaria isn%26#39;t really a problem here but every year there are people on the island dieing on Dengue fever. Official reports are 4%% per year die on mosquito bites in Thailand. There is a good baby lotion mosquito repellent available here on the island or bring one from home. That will do the job, especially at dawn.

The province of Trat borders on Cambodia and the rural areas are a high risk for malarial mozzies.

Koh Chang used to be infamous as a malarial area but in recent years this reputation as dwindled - WHY?

Probably because the risk has dwindled.

If the risk increased it would of course be no surprise that in the interests of tourism and the economy the risk would be suppressed to a certain degree.
