Travel from Ko Tao to BKK in one day to catch flight to US

Hi,

I%26#39;m trying to plan departure from Ko Tao and am wondering if the following is advised.

Leave Ko Tao on first ferry at 9:30AM

Arrive Ko Samui 11:20AM

Travel to airport 30 min

Flight to BKK leaves at 1:45PM

Arrive BKK 2:50PM

Leave BKK for flight to US at 5:05PM

I am on a carrier that I can check luggage through in Ko Samui and do clear customs there and do the CIQ thing in Bangkok. Does this itinerary leave enough time to transfer from the ferry to Ko Samui airport and go through customs and to transfer in Bangkok from domestic to international?

Thanks for any help!

If everything runs to time then you will have no problems. The weakest link is the ferry.I would be inclined to travel to Samui the day before.

Two weeks ago I had the first boat from Koh Tao to Koh Samui (Lompraya catamaran) and it was one and a half hour delayed. If this would happen to you as well, you would miss your flight.

I wouldn%26#39;t trust the ferry running on time. You have given yourself enough time it seems to get to the airport but that depends where the ferry drops you off. I got on the ferry near the big golden buddah and ended up getting dropped off on the other side of the island and it took along time on the boat and to get back to my hotel (but great scenery through towns). I was in no rush though and i had transfers (that came with the ferry ticket that we bought at reception of hotel)who knew where to meet us. so we had no dramas but i agree you should do it all a day earlier. but then i take my time on holidays.

Do the flights from Samui go to the international airport in BKK or domestic?

just wondering because we flew into samui from Phuket domestic side and trained back to BKK last time.

I just presumed they flew into the old airport from Samui.

If so check in at international is no later than 2 hours before boarding because of luggage screening measures so you are going to be well tight on that leg, unless flying first class or they keep check in open longer for your flight.

Remember you may land at 2.50 but you are not off the plane at that time!

Then you have to get to international and check in less than 2 hours before takeoff.

I would be going back to Bangkok the day before not Samui.

All flights go into Suvanabhumi, the international airport.
