I have previously bought sleeping tablets in Bangkok over the counter , I think I read somewhere you can no longer do this, does anyone know? thanks, shirley

It is corect that you can not legally buy sleeping tablets in Thailand now.

One can get all sorts of medications from small pharmacies around Sukumvit and in Pataya, but what they sell are often fakes. I was sold fake medication at the KS pharmacy next to Asia Book Store, on Sukumvit. This pharmacy is located close to the Robinson Department store on Sukumvit.

It%26#39;s best to take all non OTC medications from one%26#39;s home country. Be sure to take along your doctor%26#39;s prescriptions in case you%26#39;re checked by customs on arrival in Thailand.

If you really need prescription medicines in Thailand, it%26#39;s best to buy these from reputable hospital pharmacies, after getting that hospital doctor%26#39;s prescription. A government hospital doctor%26#39;s prescription is low cost, but there is consderable waiting involved. A private hospital prescription is faster, but more expensive.

There is a government hospital close to the Victory Monument in Bangkok. I got antibiotics from this place for a stomach ailment

there is a very reliable pharmacy almost next to the Marriot Hotel on Sukhumvit. In the supermarket in Central Chidlom is a very good pharmacy, or Amarin Plaza at Chidlom. Central also stocks the original make and not copies. Hospital pharmacies don%26#39;t necessarily stock expensive imports from Europe and with any local make (but same ingredient) and expecially with Indian made ones you have no guarantee to get what you pay for. However, to give you an example, 10 Ciprobay from the original manufacturer cost approx. 900 Bht while the same stuff locally or Indian made cost 100 or 200 Bht.

The hospital hands out locally made stuff and not Ciprobay.

Sleeping pills are not available but you can buy Valium over the counter. Hospitals charge you at least 3 times the price a pharmacy does.

You can also go to Boots and get imports from UK.

There are two chemists on suhkumvit 22 that will knock you out. One is 15 metres into the soi itself, the other 50 metres past,i.e. walking towards soi 20.

I personally only avail myself of their services as I have a terrible time sleeping on any full moon night! (I kid you not).

When you say Shirley that you have previously bought sleeping tablets you must mean prescription tranquilisers as I have found that this is all that they will sell you, anything from Valium, Librium or mostly zannex , along Sukhumvit you will find it hard to get this now, find a small pharmacy down a side street and you should be allright, if you are comming anywhere near Pattaya they will sell you anything here.

does anybody knows if is there pharmacy chain, o supermarkets that sells generics that has a internet page where i can see the products and prices???????

Boots sells imports which are more reliable.

Locally made generics often do not quantify the ingredient and you don%26#39;t achieve what you want to achieve.
