koh chang accessible for wheechair?

If you are either flying to Trat or taking a private minibus from Bangkok then then ferry should be a problem as she can sit comfortably in the minibus when you are on the ferry. But if you are taking the regular bus here, getting on and off the ferry is OK, no steps of any kind. But all the seating on the ferry is up a couple of flights of steps, so unless you want to leave her on the car deck parked next to the motorbikes, she%26#39;d need carrying up there.

Once you are here then if you choose an area where the road isn%26#39;t too busy, and is flat, and there are plenty of shops %26amp; places to eat nearby then you%26#39;ll be fine . The north end of Klong Prao beach for example. white sand Beach would also be OK as everything is with easy reach of the resorts, but can get crowded by the roadside and is much busier. Same with Kai Bae, the road is quite narrow in places and no pavement to walk on.

Try to visit mid December, before Xmas, as Xmas Week/New Year and early January are far busier and you%26#39;ll also get hit for compulsory %26#39;gala buffet dinners%26#39; if you are here over the holiday time.

Kai Bae works just fine for people bound to a wheelchair.

Right now I see 2 every day, 1 stays in Garden Resort Kai Bae and the other one in Kai Bae Hut Resort.

I talked to both and they are quite happy with the life here.

For December book early.

thank you for your reply Ian and Kaibae

Hi Sweetpea,

Just returned from Koh Chang where we spend 10 days at The Chill Resort.

One of the things I noted was that, if you stayed on the ground floor (Splash Rooms), you can access directly from reception, to your room, to the restaurant and bar, to the beach with no steps. I commented at the time that it is very wheelchair friendly.

You could even slide into the pool direct from your room.

I will post a full review of the resort soon.

Regards

Andrew

Whereas some resorts give a passing nod to wheelchair access, you may find navigating the public roads a different matter - sidewalks are either rough as hell or non-existent.

I%26#39;ve even seen ramps with a six inch drop at the end.

You might want to modify your chair a little - i.e. strap a ';Hummer'; underneath it.
