Exchanging tickets due to price reductions

Hello:

We booked seats 2 months ago from SFO to BKK on Cathay Pacific for this November at $886 plus taxes($1,118.31 with taxes). This sounded like a reasonably good fare. Unfortunately, the price is down to $996 including all taxes. (Prices under 1K seem unreasonably cheap for cross-continenetal; must be the recession). After waiting over 45 minutes to get through, they told me it%26#39;s $75 per ticket to rebook and we%26#39;d have to totally cancel and start all over again. They were not very helpful at all.

Although the reduction is now $244, more than the $150 charge, I%26#39;m not sure I trust this process, especially since it%26#39;s almost impossible to get anyone on the phone.

Would apprecaite any comments frrm anyone who might have exchanged tickets with Cathay Pacific or has been in a similar sitiation. Thanks

Sorry I can%26#39;t commment specifically on Cathay Pacific, but on other airlines (AA and United) you can get a refund voucher for the difference in fare to use at a later date. It has not cost me anything in the past and is good for up to a year to use for future travel. Not as good as cash in hand, but if you travel more than once a year, it might be worth it to get the most refund power, rather than paying the rebooking fee.
