Taking medication to Thailand

Hi we are going overseas for the first time ever at the end of March and was wondering what the go is re: taking with us (out of Australia into Thailand) things like panadol, travel/motion sickness tablets and the like. Just want to be sure as i dont want my accomodation on arrival to be changed from our lovely resort to the Bangkok Hilton.

We%26#39;ve never had any problems taking in panadol or prescription drugs. Just to be neurotic we%26#39;ve always taken photocopies of our prescriptions with us but have never needed to show them. Your lovely resort beckons.....

Taking medication to Thailand

Panadol %26amp; the like is no problem, plenty of places to buy it there as for prescription drugs get a letter from your doctor just in case, we have never been pulled up on it , but if you have a letter should be fine

Pharmaceuticals, including a lot of what is prescription medicine in Australia, is available over the counter in Phuket. My prescription med%26#39;s at the local here are $33, got them for $14 there, without a prescription. I took the script with me just in case, but did not need it. I don%26#39;t even think there is anywhere on the form to declare medicines inbound; there is coming back into Australia.

I took glucosamine tablets, unmarked and loose, in a little %26#39;drug%26#39; bag in my luggage, along with my panadols etc. Didn%26#39;t get asked about them at either end. Obviously the x-ray must count for less than the sniffer dog.

Some countries (eg Greece used to be one) can get funny about something codeine based, but that%26#39;s usually fine as long as you have your script with you.

As the others have said its all readily available in many parts of Thailand so is is no need to take a huge quantity just enough to get you through. You will find everything you need there and its probably half the price of Melbourne prices. We buy our toiletries Panadol etc when we get to Phuket its much cheaper.

If you are on any prescription meds you can take a letter from your Doctor to say that you require this particular medication and you must have your own name on the meds you are taking.

We have taken prescription drugs into Thailand and declared them to customs and they have never even stopped to read the label but i would just be cautious and do the correct thing.

Cheers,Pete

they won%26#39;t bother you for those medications just get a doctors note and you%26#39;ll be fine.Now as for that pot in your surf board just say it was the baggage handlers, anyway bangkok hilton fine in april with there new year and water festivals it%26#39;s party time ';and free%26#39;

I wouldn%26#39;t be too concerned. Although, I have to admit in the five times that I have been to Phuket, Customs were on the highest state of alert I have ever seen.

They were actually awake this time. The last few times, they have just rolled over in their sleep and had a scratch...
